I’ve been very rich and LUCKY! I’ve been blessed what the mister calls some “ALL STAR DOG’S”. Spencer was one of those dogs. From the minute he picked us, and we brought him home he was a good guy. He was what the dog experts call ” A Genius Puppy” they have these little exercises you put the pup through to see how smart they are and he passed them all with flying colors. Did we care about all that, not really, we just were reeling from the loss of Spencer II and needed a dog badly! He was what we needed & I think he needed us, so off we went on our big adventure of life with Spencer.
He went to work with the mister everyday and it taught him to love people and be the most social dog you would ever meet. He greeted everyone who came into our warehouse with a tail wag and as he grew he learned that if he needed a closer look he could put his front paws up on the counter and really get eye to eye with customers! Even our Post Lady loved him and was sad if he was out of the office for some reason.
Then we sold the warehouse and moved our operation back home, but that didn’t slow him down weather permitting he still rode with the mister everyday and was a working dog. Then we bought a BAR “yikes” and believe it or not he was the talk of Hannibal’s Waldo Bar & Grille. He went for the remodel, he went early in the mornings before the evil health department could come, and he hung out on the outdoor deck of the bar on nice days! He just always seemed to find a place to fit in.
We are those people that you don’t know our names, but you know the names of our animals, Spencer’s Dad, Rusty’s Mama, look its Guinness and I’m sorry i can’t remember your name? It’s just been that way for us all along for many years and many, many dogs?! Oh, your the people with that YELLOW LAB SPENCER I’ve heard so many times and it still makes me happy each and every time!
Well sadly every happy story has a beginning and a ending. This last few weeks have been a sad affair for us. It has been the hardest goodbye the mister has ever gone through, he tells us that even losing his own parents wasn’t this hard and I believe him, I was with him through each loss. I think, and so does he, that maybe with people you don’t get to immediately dwell on the loss, for you see we are Irish & kinda Catholic and we have much ceremony and tradition in our family. We love hard and say goodbye fiercely, we honor and pray and do all the stuff your suppose to do. But, with a pet you grieve just as hard you just don’t get the buffer of all that other stuff! After all, he lived to be almost 13 and we have no children, he was family!
So HERE’S TO SPENCER, RAISE A GLASS AND SEND HIM ON! He was a good boy, he fought hard to the very end! He was a devoted, life loving, ball chasing, Jane Fonda morning exerciser, barking, spoiled brat, swimming fool, mud rolling, toy loving, treat whore, car rider, package raider, door greater, nap taker, loyal friend and he will be forever missed! God Bless you and watch over you big guy!
Love, Ramona, Rusty, Guinness and mostly The Mister!
