Funny Stuff

This just makes me laugh it is probably something that was a giveaway in the 60’s?? I’m guessing but they got it a little WONKY!

Our Foster Failure!

We took a chance, a BIG chance! The mister had a friend who knew of a dog in a precarious situation. It was NOT GOOD where this dog was, he was fed and watered and that was about it, except he did live inside. She told us he was a great dog that needed a leg up, he got no attention, his owner worked and got the dog for his kids as he was getting a D I V O R C E and this dog was to keep his soon to be EX-WIFE happy????? WTH , yes i said that once or twice.  So the mister got it in his head to FOSTER, I said YES, cause he was close to a nervous breakdown over losing our beloved Labrador Retriever of 13 year Spencer, and so the story goes.

Well, we had little to none exposure to STANDARD POODLES so I said ok, but we are not keeping him, I’m not having a dog that has to be groomed!! The mister went and retrieved him, even told the previous owner, that he needed to aunty up for neutering and grooming, which he obliged (unbelievable to ME!) and BOOM we had a FOSTER DOG.

Enter Baxter, now Barack O’Dogma!  He is very coolio!  He is nine months old, and a Chocolate Standard Poodle!  He makes the mister smile and laugh, and Rusty and Guinn like him!  So once that was settled and he was neutered and groomed, the question became, when are you going to put him out in the universe for availability?? HUH, WHEN? Well the reply was, i just need a little time to enjoy him? OK, your time is up!!! You need to do this, he is HIGHLY adoptable, I even had people who wanted to meet him.

EPIC FAIL, I hate to use that phraseology, but it fits!  We now have a Barack O’Dogma and he is staying, and I was informed this morning “It’s TIME to start looking for a Lab puppy” WTH, yes i said it again today!!  We cant have that many dogs it puts us over our legal limit!  We have a neighbor to the East, and she is wicked, she will turn us in I informed the mister!  Oh she’ll be fine, she won’t even know……. did you just say that, i thought to myself????

We have a quandary to get straightened out!  Who is gonna get a second job to buy dog food?? Who is gonna pay vet bills??  Who is gonna walk, play and keep that many dogs entertained?? Who, who, who i wonder?

  • What kind of stuff?  I might make a artsy farts-y thing a ma jig to donate to a local art show for Art Unleashed a show benefiting The Humane Society of Greater Kansas City but that would require knuckling down.  It has to be submitted by FRIDAY AUGUST 10th. YIKES

What the H E Double Hockey Sticks is going on!!!!

I can guarantee one thing or maybe two or three, things are always gonna change! I’ve had the unsettling opportunity of finding this out first hand the last few weeks.  Hence not many posts in this blog, insert a sad face here!

Just when things seemed to be humming along quite fine & I was ready to start being creative and make some new artsy stuff   BOOM  You never see it, you don’t expect it, it just happens. The thing I’m writing of is death. In all its finality, ugliness, and ever painful reality It came knocking, and my friends husband answered. Yip, one of my longtime, dearest, special girlfriends husband went and he did it right in front of our eyes. I’m not trying to be morbid or disrespectful I need you, my friends, to keep reading this blog its helpful to me! It was just a shock to each of us in a very intimate way and now we have to pick up and keep going!

Its been a little over a week and a half, we have sent him out in HIGH STYLE! Just as I knew my friend would do! We have cried, cussed, laughed, have been so exhausted, and tried to do everything right. Well my friends that is never quite possible, something always goes nutty, or veers off into the no mans land when a death occurs around me??? Is it me, or is it big families, is it UN-preparedness, Is it, Is it, Is it? There are a lot of  “what the hells” going on in my head, I can tell you that for certain. To make it even worse in my hood we not only lost this man, but a lot of death has been around me lately!  Since we lost our Spencer dog its been about 6 people, another friends dog and NOW my MISTERS big brother! O HECK, this really sucks!!!

Well like I said we are keeping moving! If that guy with the hood stops by one more time WE AREN’T HOME!!  We have had enough, like I said in a previous post, We are Irish, We are Strong, We love hard, Hold our friends & family close in our hearts, We send them off with Great Tradition as the Hayes family knows all to well how to do!

This post is in honor of my dearest friend Reynaldo Salinas & my brother-in-law James David Hayes

My Life With Spencer Tracy Hayes III

I’ve been very rich and LUCKY! I’ve been blessed what the mister calls some “ALL STAR DOG’S”. Spencer was one of those dogs. From the minute he picked us, and we brought him home he was a good guy. He was what the dog experts call ” A Genius Puppy” they have these little exercises you put the pup through to see how smart they are and he passed them all with flying colors.  Did we care about all that, not really, we just were reeling from the loss of Spencer II and needed a dog badly!  He was what we needed & I think he needed us, so off we went on our big adventure of life with Spencer.

He went to work with the mister everyday and it taught him to love people and be the most social dog you would ever meet.  He greeted everyone who came into our warehouse with a tail wag and as he grew he learned that if he needed a closer look he could put his front paws up on the counter and really get eye to eye with customers!  Even our Post Lady loved him and was sad if he was out of the office for some reason.

Then we sold the warehouse and moved our operation back home, but that didn’t slow him down weather permitting he still rode with the mister everyday and was a working dog. Then we bought a BAR “yikes” and believe it or not he was the talk of Hannibal’s Waldo Bar & Grille. He went for the remodel, he went early in the mornings before the evil health department could come, and he hung out on the outdoor deck of the bar on nice days! He just always seemed to find a place to fit in.

We are those people that you don’t know our names, but you know the names of our animals, Spencer’s Dad, Rusty’s Mama, look its Guinness and I’m sorry i can’t remember your name? It’s just been that way for us all along for many years and many, many dogs?!  Oh, your the people with that YELLOW LAB SPENCER I’ve heard so many times and it still makes me happy each and every time!

Well sadly every happy story has a beginning and a ending. This last few weeks have been a sad affair for us. It has been the hardest goodbye the mister has ever gone through, he tells us that even losing his own parents wasn’t this hard and I believe him, I was with him through each loss. I think, and so does he, that maybe with people you don’t get to immediately dwell on the loss, for you see we are Irish & kinda Catholic and we have much ceremony and tradition in our family. We love hard and say goodbye fiercely, we honor and pray and do all the stuff your suppose to do. But, with a pet you grieve just as hard you just don’t get the buffer of all that other stuff! After all, he lived to be almost 13 and we have no children, he was family!

So HERE’S TO SPENCER, RAISE A GLASS AND SEND HIM ON! He was a good boy, he fought hard to the very end!  He was a devoted, life loving, ball chasing, Jane Fonda morning exerciser, barking, spoiled brat, swimming fool, mud rolling, toy loving, treat whore, car rider, package raider, door greater, nap taker, loyal friend and he will be forever missed! God Bless you and watch over you big guy!

Love, Ramona, Rusty, Guinness and mostly The Mister!
